1996 was a good year

I was in a band in London called Kickstand Travolta. We'd been around for a few years by then, and had a pretty big following throughout southwestern Ontario. We were young and we were the hosts of the biggest parties around. Fun times.

A few years later the original lead guitar player, Barrett, died of a peanut allergy at a gig in Guelph. I had a particularly strong connection with Barrett, musical and otherwise. I named my son after him.

I found this old article from Chart Magazine today. It's a Sloan article where Jay Ferguson referenced us as an example of using retro influences in a blatant or tasteless way, specifically in terms of design and marketing. He wasn't necessarily wrong, but at the time we hated him for it. Ultimately, the dis probably helped us in terms of exposure. Since moving to Toronto, I've crossed paths with Jay socially a couple of times. I've never mentioned this old article.
